Use of solar energy

In 2022, UEP partnered Cleantech Solar to install two rooftop solar PV systems with a total system capacity of 755kWp at our premises. This begins our pivot to renewable sources of energy, thus reducing our carbon footprint.

Recycling of old asphalt pavement

Asphalt is the most recycled material in the world, and this process greatly helps in mitigating the industry’s environmental footprint. Our asphalt plant comes with recycling capabilities, which coupled with our strict quality control measures, ensures that the integration of reclaimed asphalt pavement in the manufacturing process does not compromise on quality.

Waste management and resource conservation

UEP undertakes a rigorous waste management system to have specific areas to stockpile our mill asphalt, concrete debris and salvaged metal waste arising from our construction and repair works. In our offices, we too practice recycling of paper waste with placement of recycling bins for staff to separate and deposit them. On resource conservation, UEP also uses energy-saving appliances, water conservation appliances as well as Singapore Green Label products to reduce energy and water consumption for both our project sites and offices.

Tracking of carbon assets and use of low-carbon building materials

UEP implements a comprehensive inventory tracking of all carbon assets of our plant and project sites, with submission of yearly corporate carbon disclosure to our clients and authorities as part of our green and gracious sustainability efforts.

Use of lower carbon, energy saving building materials and asphalt technologies

UEP champions, promotes and work with clients and authorities like LTA on innovative solutions like low-carbon building materials such as Synthetic Fibre Reinforced Concrete (SFRC) on footpaths, which uses synthetic high-performance fibre instead of steel reinforcement for pedestrian footpath construction; aiming to reduce carbon footprint, increase sustainability, productivity, durability and safety.

On lower carbon and energy saving asphalt technologies, UEP produces Warm Mix Asphalt which enables the production of asphalt premix at lower temperatures without compromising quality or performance for our clients. This allows significantly lower mixing and laying temperature and results in lower consumption of petroleum resources which in turn releases lesser pollutant emissions. Other downstream benefits include improvement of site working conditions during paving with critical time schedule, as it is easier to compact and leading to quicker opening of roads for use.
